Meet the Team

  • Emily Rourke

    Board Chair

Emily (she/they) has called Treaty 7 territory home since 2020 and lives in Châ Ûpchîchîyen Kudebi (Canmore). With roots in the student movement, Emily has worked in the non-profit world in the areas of administration, governance, communications, advocacy, and fundraising for over 10 years.

She's seen the amazing momentum Canmore Pride has picked up over the past few years - bringing community members together to foster joy and help each other thrive. Emily is excited to contribute as a board member to a budding organization like Canmore Pride and create a more inclusive community for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, and by extension, for everyone. As a pansexual person, at times she questioned if she should be taking up space within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, but after working up the nerve to get involved in Canmore Pride events and programs, she was welcomed with open arms and a healthy amount of glitter.

When she's not working and volunteering, Emily can often be found in the garden growing food, singing and strumming the ol' banjo, swimming or hanging by (and giving thanks to) the water, and in social justice/community spaces.

  • Maria Lau

    Treasurer

Maria (they/them) is a Canadian and New Zealand certified ski instructor and an Interpretive Guide, who moved here from Toronto in 2017. They have over 25 years experience as an accountant, with experience in registered charities and non-profit organizations. They enjoy alpine skiing, hiking, scrambling, rock climbing, and yoga in their spare time.

  • Mandy Utton

    Secretary

Mandy (she/her) grew up in Ontario and spent several years living in the Caribbean before making Canmore her permanent home in early 2020. When she’s not out trail running (or skijoring) with her dog at one of the many local running groups, she’s likely teaching barre classes or diving into one of her various side hustles.

Joining the Canmore Pride board as a first-time board member, Mandy was inspired by a desire to uplift and amplify the voices within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community—especially those who may not always be heard. She hopes to help foster a more inclusive, supportive, and vibrant community for everyone who calls Canmore (and by extension, the Bow Valley) home.

  • Amélie Latour

    Impact & Equity Director

Amélie (she/they/elle) grew up on the territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council (Whitehorse) and has had the privilege of living, playing and learning in Châ Ûpchîchîyen Kudebi (Canmore) since 2021.

Throughout her BA in Gender and Sexuality Studies, and afterwards, Amélie has had the chance of working with a variety of community-centred organizations and non-profits and has found a passion in community building, and meaningful connection as resistance. As an Indigiqueer person, Amélie connects with anything and everything that centers Land, being outside and the lessons we can learn from it all!

In their free time, Amélie seeks out type 2 fun: skiing (all kinds!), running, hiking, biking, etc. (and of course, the snacks that come with it). She also enjoys crafting, painting, and exploring all sorts of artsy stuff.

Amélie is excited to work with the Canmore Pride board, and is looking forward to continue learning from the community!

  • Kristin Slagorsky

    Governance and Operations Director

Kristin (she/her) grew up in the prairies and has been living, counselling and adventuring in the Bow Valley since 2013. She hopes to learn more about allyship and cultivating supportive communities through her involvement with Canmore Pride. As a highly sensitive introvert, social worker/art therapist, and recovering exvangelical, she is curious about the processes of deconstruction, transformation, and creation. She is the proud auntie of nine niblings and hopes they can grow up in a safe, inclusive, caring world. Her happy place is usually found exploring wild landscapes with kindred spirits and a mighty snackpack of tasty treats.

  • Avery Levesque

    Fundraising and Partnerships Director

Avery (he/him) is a transhuman who uses he/him pronouns. He has been actively involved in protecting athletes in sports, with a focus on preventing and raising awareness about sexual violence. His work is grounded in a strong commitment to fostering belonging and creating inclusive spaces where people feel seen, supported, and valued.

Nowadays, Avery serves as the Program Manager at Bow Valley Palliative, where he shows up with compassion and prioritizes dignity and excellence in care. Outside of work, he can often be found enjoying the outdoors or at local markets, promoting Radical Mullet Tea, a social enterprise. Avery is excited to take on a role in fundraising and partnerships on the board of Canmore Pride.

  • Mich Lam

    Executive Director

Mich (they/them) is a creative at heart—whether that’d be through organizing events, storytelling, or design. They have been living in the Bow Valley since 2016, focusing their efforts on building inclusive spaces in our community.

As a trans/non-binary, queer, and neurodivergent person with family roots in Hong Kong, Mich holds a variety of identities and is driven to learn about what inclusivity and accessibility means to different people.  Mich hopes that this continuous learning journey can be used to shape the future of Canmore Pride.

Outside of Canmore Pride, Mich is a freelance graphic designer and mycophile (lover or mushrooms/fungi).
